Peregrine

Peregrine was the name brand of Teel, Inc. and was based in Franklin Lakes, NJ. It operated from 1979 to about 1997. Not much is known about the company. Information and documentation is scarce. It has been speculated that Teel, Inc. did not keep very good records, and it is known that Teel did things a lot differently than other bicycle companies. In speaking with two of the Peregrine sponsored BMX riders, I learned that Peregrine was owned by a Takaya Nieda and that he was a bicycle parts distributor before dabbling with branded BMX parts. Peregrine did not make any parts inhouse. All of the parts were made in Taiwan or Japan and assembled at the warehouse in Franklin Lakes, such as Ukai, Anlun, and Suzue. It is known that Teel, Inc. filed for chapter 13 in the late 90's, and it has been speculated that the high cost of production caused the lapse in maintaining the company and allowing it to fade away. However, it has not faded away permanently. If you are building or restoring a 1987 Haro Master, then you know Peregrine wheels, chainring, cranks, and seat clamp are a "must have". Peregrine made more than just accessories to Haros, Kuwaharas, and Generals however, and so I will share as much as I can.

Peregrine is a prominent name when it comes to BMX freestyle. They are known mostly for their high quality wheels and parts. Peregrine also made high end freestyle completes in the late 80's and early 90's. They ventured into racing with the RX1 in the early 90's and the Class 1 frames in the mid to late 90's, but they made only a few early completes. In the late 90's they closed their doors, which was a sign of things to come, the end of an era. Peregrine even tried to get into the Mountain Bike scene which is evident by the parts that pop up every now and then.
